What is it about wedding / events that you love?
I have a genuine passion for love, and secondly, I adore bringing people together. Those who know me are aware that I’m always seeking opportunities to unite people and celebrate life. Any reason to celebrate is a good reason in my book.
What motivated you get into the business?
With a background in Behavioural Sciences, I had the chance to dive into industry work while in school. That experience solidified my passion for the field. Events and weddings emerged as this incredible blend of creativity and business challenges that just clicked for me. Plus, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of helping make someone’s dreams a reality.
Do you have an all time favourite event? If so, what made it so special for you?
My all-time favourite event was my best friend’s wedding. With a friendship spanning almost 30 years, she’s more like a sister to me. On that special day, I wore many hats – I was the planner, the maid of honour, and also Zia/Godmother to her kids. Originally planned before COVID, her wedding faced numerous changes, including venue cancellations and the start of her family. Post-COVID, we pivoted big time and opted for a cocktail-style party in her backyard where the celebration kicked off the moment you walked in. We skipped the formalities and dove straight into the celebration. The focus was on the energy and the party itself rather than the outward appearance. As a wedding planner, I do appreciate those details but what truly mattered was the couples’ vibe and the collective commitment to having an unforgettable time. The wedding was truly a testament to how much the success of an event has to do with the energy the couple brings.
Not that you asked, but I just have to share – my second favourite wedding was one with the incredible Michael Coombs of course! Our clients Erik and Kyle not only gave me free rein to unleash my creativity in design, but they also brought the most amazing energy. With Michael’s help, the celebration was truly unforgettable, a real standout among all the weddings I’ve been a part of.
What matters to you most about your business?
While running a business demands attention to numerous priorities, I’ve found that in this industry, successful relationships stand out above all else. Throughout my career, I’ve cultivated many meaningful connections with clients that have blossomed into genuine friendships. For me, this aspect of my business is truly invaluable. These relationships have enriched my life in ways beyond measure, allowing me to forge deep, lasting bonds that extend far beyond business transactions. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to make such beautiful connections in life, and cherish each and every one of them.
What’s one piece of advice that you would like to give to any potential client when planning their event?
If there is a piece of advice I’d offer to anyone planning an event, it’s this: ensure it reflects who you are to the fullest extent. Embrace the process and have fun with it, even amidst the inevitable stress and chaos. Remember to express gratitude along the way and most importantly, invest in the right vendors who can bring your vision to life. Whether it’s a wedding or any other special occasion, cherish the opportunity to gather your loves ones and celebrate together.
